Artist: Pietro Mancuso
Born in Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso, where he still lives and works: his solitary studio is located among the vineyards of the Valdobbiadene hills and the banks of the Piave river.
Go to WorksIn the 1960s, moving from Switzerland toHolland in search of fortune, he had the opportunity to meet the great work of the masters of Northern Europe, and discover the strength of expressionist authors. Returning to Italy, he then dedicated himself to the study of the masters of the sixteenth century Veneto and to his own art: in his essentially self-taught artistic journey, Mancuso came to the vision of the great masters of Symbolism and of Metaphysical Painting.
The favorite theme of metamorphosis has consolidated over time, now more lucid and dreamy, now harder and obsessive. The shades created starting from the changing colors are his most authentic stylistic feature: they enrich the representations with an emotional and symbolic charge which, starting from recognizable figurative elements of the natural world, leads the observer to consider the compositional whole in a process that ends with a real dreamlike introspection.
"Pietro Mancuso" launches "with his imagination from a traditionally familiar world, with strong impressions of the countryside, into a fluid, imaginative, dreamlike universe, which belongs to him alone: tangles of figures, naked but without physically evident nudity, indeed initially devoid of material physicality, which rapidly, as the painter's ideas become precise, acquire magical faculties, in a whole where strong colors triumph."
