Artist: WOWE

Wolfgang Wesener, aka Wowe, (*1960) is a German photographer originally from Cologne who moved with his family to the Venetian foothills between the late 1990s and the early 2000s. Trained at the Folkwangschule in Essen, where he was a student of Inghe Osswald he began his first collaboration with the music magazine  span>Spex.

In 1984, after graduating, he moved to New York: here he was introduced to the world of documentary photography by Hans Namuth and Evelin Hofer, for whom he works as an assistant. Inserted in the reality of the Big Apple, Wowe will publish in newspapers such asVanity Fair, New York Times, Tempo, Stern, London Observer and Telegraph Magazine.

  1986 marks the 'beginning of a twelve-year collaboration with the FAZ-Magazine, weekly supplement of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, for which he portrays personalities from the contemporary artistic, intellectual and musical world, such as Andy Warhol, Frank Zappa, Philip Johnson, Susan Sontag, Keith Haring, William Burroughs, Run-DMC, IM Pei e Merce Cunningam, in a set of photos that outline the pop reality of the 80s.

In 2012, on the occasion of the Asolo Biennial Art Prize, he presented the exhibition Portraits by Wowe. , in which he presents works from the Berlin exhibition  Wowe. Essence. Twenty-five Years of Portraits (2010, C/O, Berlin). Itaca offers its investors these photographs, all accompanied by a frame handmade by the artistGiovanni Casellato. He currently lives in New York.
